What makes hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) different from BEVs is that they combine an electric motor with a classic internal combustion engine. Their batteries are smaller and, in the case of plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), can be recharged from an electrical outlet.
PHEVs, too, can be driven in all-electric mode, but the range here is limited to 70 km (depending on the model, its equipment, and the state of charge). Then there are mild-hybrid vehicles (MHEVs), which have even smaller batteries and are not capable of purely electric driving. Instead, their electric motor boosts overall performance, mainly at low revs, which results in reduced fuel consumption.
But whether you drive a ŠKODA BEV, PHEV or MHEV, you can always be sure that the batteries are of the highest level of safety in the event of an accident, overheating or short-circuiting.
